On November 28, 2025, the Joint Construction Materials Committee (JCMC) obtained a 10-day safeguard order from the Superior Court. This order suspends the application of section 17.01 of the Decree respecting the metal joinery industry of the Montreal region (CQLR, c. D-2, r. 14) (the “Decree”). This section stipulated that the Decree would remain in force until November 30, 2025.
Therefore, the ruling issued on November 28th ensures that the scheduled end of the Decree will not take effect, and its effects may remain in place until December 9, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. This deadline could be extended again. We will keep you informed of any developments in the meantime.
This means that your company must continue to withhold insurance, pension fund and vacation contributions as provided for in the Decree respecting the metal joinery industry of the Montreal region (CQLR, c. D-2, r. 14) , until further notice.
If steps have been taken on your end to offer a new employee benefits program, these steps must be put on hold and no contract should be awarded at this time.
The report of hours worked during the month of December 2025 must be submitted to the CCMC by January 15, 2026.
We also remind you that the monthly report of hours worked during the month of November must be sent to the CCMC before December 15, 2025.
We are aware of the tight deadlines in this matter and apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please be assured that further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
